S.T.O.R.M

The RM Overdose Community Action Team a multisector group of municipal and community partners. It is comprised of individuals from Alouette Addictions, Fraser Health, RainCity Housing, the Salvation Army, School District 42, and others. The group’s primary goal is to work together to develop a community-based response to opioid overdose crisis, identify challenges and address gaps as they arise, and increase community wide compassion, engagement and inclusion.

At our community planning table we:

• are proactive and action oriented;

• actively engage peers and those with lived experience;

• believe all people are equal and that each of us brings value to the conversation;

• understand that stories, best practices, and research are the best tools to communicate our shared message when working on complex community issues;

• recognize that stigma and shaming create barriers to accessing services;

• are passionate about building a stronger, more resilient community for all.

These values and beliefs guide our work, our interactions, and help us frame our approach.

What is C.A.T ?

C.A.T is Community Action Team

“A comprehensive response to the overdose crisis is required to address the ongoing Public Health Emergency in BC. Communities play a critical role in saving lives and connecting people to treatment and recovery. Community Action Teams play a crucial role in targeting local resources where they are needed most and in strengthening local partnerships.

In partnership with the Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction’s Overdose Emergency Response Centre (OERC), the Community Action Initiative (CAI) is funding Community Action Teams (CATs) in communities hardest hit by the overdose crisis across the province.

The purpose of the Community Action Team Grants is to help communities develop partnerships to provide focused, action-oriented strategies that will help to address the overdose crisis on a local level.

There are currently 35 Community Action Teams in operation.” -CAI
